The police should not have acted so brutally against a peaceful demonstration for a good cause to abolish the ISA which has stifled the growth of this nation for almost 50 years. The police brutality must be condemned strongly by all peace loving Malaysians.

Your MP's Question of the Week #34

A majority of the rakyat view the ISA as a draconian piece of legislation that has long outlived its usefulness and they want it abolished. Their last straw was when Raja Petra Kamarudin and the others were arrested by the authority in September 2008 for the flimsiest and most absurd of reasons. Since then the rakyat throughout the country have been holding weekly candle-light vigils to press for a swift repeal of the ISA and seek the release of all its detainees now numbering about 65.

Candle-light vigil for Raja Petra, Teresa Kok and others

Here are some of the pictures of the solidarity vigil that was held at Blog House in Bukit Damansara, 14 September 2008. Our thoughts were not only with Raja Petra and Teresa Kok but also the Hindraf 5 and all other ISA detainees. We appeal to the good sense of the Badawi administration to abolish the ISA Act and free all victims who had been incarcerated without trial.

At about 1.00 p.m. today, Raja Petra Kamarudin (RPK) was arrested and detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA). If RPK has committed an offence then the Government should charge him in Court. DETENTION OF ANY CITIZEN UNDER ANY PREVENTIVE LAW WITHOUT A FAIR TRIAL CAN NEVER BE JUSTIFIED IN A DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY! All Malaysians should hang our heads low in shame for allowing such a draconian act against a citizen to happen in the 21st Century.
