  1. Wee,

As an aside, let me inform that the ‘no smoking campaign’ has gone a bit too far, pricing itself out of the market and inviting smuggling and badder alternatives.

Today’s research indicates there is no correlation between smoking and cancer. We have been frightened and lied to based on puerile research. Nobody still knows what causes cancer, but just look for a blame, and usually pin it on tobacco and alcohol.

After 40 years of campaigning against smoking and resulting in a major reduction of smokers, the number of lung and other cancer cases has increased in the US. Doctors now tell longtime smokers not to stop but continue, especially if exposed to certain industries, as cessation leads to complications and even deaths. On the contrary smoking induced coughing strengthens the lungs!!

Western research is such that they reverse their stand every few decades. Today we are told to eat fruits BEFORE meals. Today we are told that alcohol is good for the heart. Today we are told that the liver rebuilds itself. Today we are told that salmonella is found in many vegetables. Today we are told not to use pesticides or fertilizers and that butter and cheese can cause cancer. Now they say both men and women’s sexual appetite does not reduce after age 50, and its a psychological tool to a balanced life. Now it is declared that chinese food is an unbalanced meal and malay food is the worst diet in the world.

Most of the world are not up to date on these recent findings or wish to trivialize it based on no clinical finds, but on superseded past research!

  2. The entire system is a joke! Today Malaysian politics is actually the best soap opera on tv and other types of mass media. Both locals and foreigners are watching ever so closely on what will happen next as the plot thickens.
Maybe one day we may end up having Oliver Stone directing an academy award movie based on our country’s politics.

  3. I am glad that YB Wee is taking an interest in the implementation of WHO’s Framework on Tobacco Control. This is very important because we want to keep our young generation healthy and strong. We must keep our young away from tobacco. Singapore and Thailand (in Asean counytries) have fully implemented the FCTC. Why can’t Malaysia?

Don’t tell me that the government is not interested int he health of our young generation.

Keep it up Wee. Thank you for taking an interest in the tobacco matter. Politic musty also include matter of this nature in order to balance it up.

  4. It is a multi billion industry that churns out a lot of revenue for the government that’s why they seemto always close one eye. It’s all about the RM 😉

  5. I know the tobacco industry is churning in a lot of monies for the government. The health of the people must take priority over profit/revenue. We need healthy Malaysians to make this nation great.

Let not think of revenue received from this sin. Let make it difficult for them to sell the drug to screw up the young people.

  6. Hi Temenggong,

Well, actually there ARE researches made on the relation between smoking & cancer – you can visit this website http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/tobacco/cancer.

    1) Cigarette smoking causes 87 percent of lung cancer deaths .Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in both men and women. Smoking is also responsible for most cancers of the larynx, oral cavity and pharynx, esophagus, and bladder. In addition, it is a cause of kidney, pancreatic, cervical, and stomach cancers as well as acute myeloid leukemia
    2) Exposure to secondhand smoke, or environmental tobacco smoke (ETS), significantly increases the risk of lung cancer and heart disease in nonsmokers, as well as several respiratory illnesses in young children

    Hi AHoo,

I like your cycle of missing in Malaysia. Very true indeed.

  7. Hi Sweet Child,

Those are the standard old views. New research has debunked all that but govts everywhere turns a blind eye as the cannot accept such views.

I’m up to date on these kinds of findings and researches.

Bring down smoking and up will go drug abuse! People need an exhaust somewhere!
