  1. One has to look at how Singapore deals with Uber – unlike all the other countries who try to ban this ride-share service, Singapore allowed them to operate because the country’s taxi industry and public transportation system has been clean, efficient and well-respected so rather than being a disruptive force, Uber complements the market by offering a different product.

In our case, if our taxi service doesn’t buck-up you might see taxi drivers joining Uber and the probable collapse of the industry.

  2. Mr Wee – why don’t you suggest to SPAD that they sit down with Singapore’s LTA and find out in detail how the republic manages it’s public taxi services?

A lawatan sambil belajar, if you will.

And while they are doing that, ask SPAD to find out how the LTA regulates and manages public bus services in Singapore.

Or will they take the position that there is nothing that they can learn from Singapore in the regulation and management of public transport?

  3. Totally disagree with that article about worst taxi drivers. As white foreigner who lives in Asia for 10 years I can tell for sure Malaysian taxi drivers are OK in general. Some of them too greedy (near KLCC especially), some have no manners. But I think people from LondonCabs never visited Phuket, where taxi mafia is SO strong and even government afraid to create public bus routes (local taxi drivers said they will burn public buses in tourists area). You can’t even make a short ride (about 500-1000metres) with tariff less than 150 tai bat (now it’s about 17RM)

And indian taxi? Does anybody tried it? 🙂 they try to take you to every shop on the way, even if you say very strict “from A to B” because you in hurry. Taxi drivers in Goa do not let tourists to use any other cars, even official buses from travel companies.
